This magazine will explore ideas and practical struggles that can teach us about building a revolutionary movement today. We decided to cease printing Red &amp; Black Revolution, and start this project, aimed at provoking debate and discussion among anarchists and the left. For this purpose, we will be pursuing a non-sectarian approach, taking ideas from various left currents, mainstream discourse, and reflections on experiences of life and struggle. We will take, print, and discuss, anything that we find useful for our needs. We hope that readers will have a similar attitude, and will use the magazine to discuss, debate and develop ideas. We will also welcome submissions and responses to articles.\";s:21:\"node_revisions_format\";s:1:\"2\";s:7:\"_random\";s:18:\"0.0425702277967429\";}i:1;O:8:\"stdClass\":5:{s:3:\"nid\";s:4:\"5941\";s:10:\"node_title\";s:23:\"Parliament or democracy\";s:21:\"node_revisions_teaser\";s:1010:\"<p><img alt=\"\" src=\"/sites/default/files/PoDCover400.jpg\" style=\"width: 300px; height: 428px; border-width: 1px; border-style: solid; margin: 3px; float: right;\" /><strong>From the 1850s onwards, against a background of great new wealth in society and a working class that was more independent and resourceful, the &#39;problem of democracy&#39; became urgent for the rich and powerful. In general wealth was rising throughout society, but so was the greed of those who owned the new factories, mines and plantations. Eviction of Disco Disco occupation - video from 2003

Date:

Interesting bit of Dublin squatting history just went online, a video of the the 2003 attempt to squat the Disco Disco building at 41 Parnell square (West). The building had been vacant for well over a decade at that stage (and may still be?) but shortly after the squatters started securing the building a gang of heavies arrived down (10.55 in the video) and attacked them. The cops arrived and pushed their way into the building after the door had been partly opened to allow someone injured in the attack to seek medical attention.

Anti-choice dirty tricks - fake posters removed in Dublin

Date:

With the referendum not even definitively announced the anti-women bigots are already up to dirty tricks. This image of fake posters removed from Dublin's Pearse st this morning was tweeted by Sharon ✨ @sharmander_says a couple of hours ago. If you spot similar posters we suggest you remove them and message us a photo and the location and time they were spotted.  We would also be very interested in any information on who put these up.

This just underlines the importance of a massive turnout on Saturday's March for Choice, Parnell sq, 14.00.

6th March for Choice 30 Sept - march with the anarchist bloc

Date:

The 6th annual March for Choice takes place September 30th in Dublin and once more we are bringing together an anarchist bloc for the march - join us on the day.

It's going to be an important march as the government have promised a referendum next year but have not yet announced a date or indeed what we will actually be allowed to vote on.  There is a real danger that rather than a vote to delete the 8th Amendment they will seek to replace it with text that would still seek to deny bodily autonomy and allow abortion access in very restricted circumstances.  Some 12 people a day are forced to travel to access abortion and more use pills at home under the theoretical threat of a 14 year jail term, the danger is that many of these people would still be unable to access abortion and pregnant people would continue to find the 8th amendment denied them control in their own pregnancy.

It was the X-case which politicised me - and I'll march again on the 30th

Date:
Choice is a political issue.  I emigrated to the UK in the 80’s and when I returned to Dublin it was the X-case which politicised me.  It was incomprehensible to me as a 23 year old that this young 14 year old girl who had been raped was not allowed to leave the country.

I was not the only one who felt strongly about this, and there were massive marches asking for the young woman to be let go to the UK to have an abortion. That was 1992 [in the picture I am there holding the placard on the left]. I felt like I had to leave this place to come back and see it with new eyes, and see how dysfunctional it truly was, and remains.

Dublin Brothel Pickets - Stigma is Not the Solution

Date:

Why have there been pickets outside massage parlours on Dorset St? Do they really pose any danger? Do these protests help those who work there, or actually make them more afraid and isolated? Watch the video below.

Dubliners Make Anti-Fascist Message Stick around City

Date:

Recently anti-fascists mobilised in Dublin to cover far-right propaganda in the city centre and send a clear pro-freedom and humanist message. 500 stickers welcoming refugees, denouncing Nazism & fascism, sexism, and homophobia, supporting a pregnant person's right to choose, and so forth, were emblazoned on the social canvas.

This was partially in response to a fascist group attempting to launch in Dublin a couple weeks ago, in an esteemed lineage of micro-sects which the same begrudgers have failed to get off the ground in this country, forgetting to turn up to their own meeting while 50 anti-fascists turned out. However, they were very proud to attach 4-5 fascist stickers to Dublin lampposts (which were all scratched off promptly).

Dozens Turn out to Challenge Abortive Far-Right Launch

Date:

From the Anti-Racism Network Ireland:

'Today about 50+ ordinary folks living in Ireland came together at short notice to mobilise in opposition to a new far-right group. We came together as a practical expression of anti racism and anti fascism. Generation Identity Eire is trying to politically organise in Ireland, using branding and ideas imported from other racist and fascist groups of the 'Identitiarian' movement across Europe. To this there is only one effective response: disruption so such organising cannot happen.
