Dublin: Stop The Bank Bailout Protest

Date:

Saturday 16th May
2:30p.m.
Central Bank, Dame StreetMinister for Finance Brian Lenihan recently boasted that his European colleagues were 'amazed' at the amount of pain he was able to inflict on Irish workers and said that there would be “riots” in France were the pension levy on public servants to be introduced in that country.
It's way past time that Irish workers began to stand up for ourselves and show Lenihan and his colleagues that we are no longer willing to allow them to make ordinary workers pay for the financial crisis.
SIPTU's education branch recently hosted a meeting for rank and file trade unionists to discuss how trade unionists should respond to the Irish Congress of Trade Unions' failure to go ahead with the planned strike on 30th March. (see http://www.indymedia.ie/article/91997)
That meeting agreed to
*organise a protest at the Central Bank, as part of the European Trade Union Confederation day of action on May 16th.
*call a rank & file conference to bring together oppositionists in the unions
*organise a campaign of opposition if there is a vote on a renegotiated partnership agreement
*call ourselves 'Grassroots Unite'

Work is now underway to plan a protest at the Central Bank, Dame Street for Saturday 16th March on the topic "Stop the Bailout of Banks. No Levies on PAYE workers. For a stimulus package to create jobs". Leaflets and posters will be available shortly. A website has been set up at http://grassrootsunite.wordpress.com and a facebook account has been set up.

So please do what you can to publicise this protest among your workmates and friends. Let's use this opportunity to unite with workers across Europe and use the opportunity to begin to build a fightback in Ireland
