In Kinsale the Further Education College (FEC) and the secondary school were picketed for several hours this morning. I was unpleasantly surprised to find out that the social welfare office is privatised and so was running as normal today.In the FEC the principal told me how curricular choice has been limited and the student-teacher ratio has risen due to the cutbacks. He also said “there is a view taken in government that it is okay to attack public service pay - the pay and conditions of teachers in particular... This is a statement by the workers that this is completely and totally unacceptable to us”
