Galway Council of Trade Unions have called a lunch time demo for Thursday 1st May, in University College Hospital Galway in protest against the recruitment ban, cut backs, privitisation and co-location in the health service.
Anarchism is about building a society with maximum freedom and maximum equality. However, to achieve this we must first of all destroy capitalism. How can we achieve this aim and how can we do it sooner rather than later? Anarchist ideas link a vision of a new world with the practical methods of getting there - through direct action and solidarity. Come along to the talk. All very welcome!
Anarchists will be getting together this Saturday afternoon in Galway city centre to give out leaflets and promote anarchist ideas ahead of the public meeting later in April on Organising For Anarchism. If you want to help in any way or get involved then come along ...
Μπορούν οι αναρχικοί να υποστηρίξουν τις εθνικοποιήσεις; Τι πρέπει να γίνει με τις εγκαταστάσεις φυσικού αερίου στο Rossport; (σ.τ.μ.: τοποθεσία με εγκαταστάσεις αερίου στην Ιρλανδία). Θα την αφήσουμε στα χέρια της Shell και οι παχιές γάτες (σ.τ.μ.: εννοεί τα αφεντικά) θα γίνονται παχύτερες; Θα προσπαθήσουμε να πείσουμε την κυβέρνηση Bertie να τις εθνικοποιήσει για να χρησιμοποιήσει τα κέρδη της προς όφελός μας;
The Shell to Sea campaign has already kicked back into gear in the new year, motivated that 2007 will finally be the year when Shell is forced to refine the gas offshore. It would be wrong, however, to think that the holiday season has been a quiet, relaxing time for the community of Rossport threatened with the dangerous pipeline.
John Monaghan is a resident of Rossport county Mayo and part of the Shell To Sea campaign. Shell's pipeline, if it were built, would be located less than 70km from his home. Here he speaks about how the jailing of his father in law Micheál Ó Seighin drew him into the campaign and how the struggle against Shell has raised greater national questions for him about local democracy and control of natural resources.
Work at the controversial Bellanaboy refinery site was halted on Friday the 16th February for the first time since October 3rd 2006 by a breakaway march of roughly 150 militant protestors.
The Shell to Sea Campaign organised a day of support on the 16th February at Bellanaboy to give people from around the country the opportunity to show their support and solidarity with the community of Erris in their struggle against Shell. After the official protest had ended around 100 people crossed the bog to gain access to the refinery and suceeed in halting work there.
A consortium of Shell, Statoil, and Marathon do a deal with the government allowing them exclusive exploitation rights to the Corrib gas field, off Mayo. Not only that, but they are allowed to write off their costs against taxes, meaning that the whole project is being funded by the PAYE taxpayer, who will receive nothing, not even lower gas prices. It may sound a bit iffy but there is no garda investigation into possible bribery or corruption.
