ICTU president Jack O’Connor addresses Green Isle Foods strikers rally

The President of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, Jack O’Connor, told a rally in support of the Green Isle Foods workers and hunger strikers today in Naas that all 850,000 union members on the island of Ireland and the seven million trade unionists in Britain would be made aware of the findings of the Labour Court investigation into the real issues in dispute at the plant. This would allow them to make an informed decision when exercising their preferences as consumers with regard to Green Isle Foods products and those of its parent company Northern Foods.

Maynooth Students come out in support of NUIM staff

Students assembled just before 12pm today in Maynooth to join lecturers and other staff at the National University of Ireland NUI Maynooth on the picket lines for a number of hours.. Solidarity pickets were placed on both North and South campuses of NUI Maynooth.

Workers Occupation of Reilly Bookbinders in Wicklow Pays Off

The boss is shown the door and the workers take over. That’s what happened for a month at Reilly Bookbinders on the Murrough Industrial Estate in Wicklow town.The company had been in Wicklow for 30 years. Then four years ago it was taken over by Dunne and Wilson (Ireland) Ltd.. Two years later the building from which the company operated was sold to the Wicklow Enterprise Centre for over €900,000. It is understood to have been acquired by Dunne and Wilson for between €400,000 and €450,000. Then, this summer, boss Richard Geraghty told staff that the lease was up on August 1st and their work was being relocated to the Czech Republic.

Meeting of the North Wicklow Anarchist Forum

On the 21st and 22nd of August there is a meeting of the North Wicklow
Anarchist Forum that will take place in Bray.

The aim of this forum is to bring together anyone with an interest in
anarchism, ranging from the slightest of curiosity to radical activists.
Discussion will range from general questions, issues and ideas brought
to the forum by those present (level of involvement is at the
individuals discretion). Independent committees will be established to further
explore those ideas and act upon conclusion.

Anarchists take direct action against torture / rendition flights at Baldonnel

Sunday April 16 saw the Irish government mark the 90th anniversary of the Easter 1916 insurrection against British imperialism. Some 120,000 turned out to watch a military parade and a fly past. To coincide with the event anti-war activists, most of them anarchists, were making their way to Baldonnel airbase where the planes and helicopters involved in the fly past took off from. This airbase has been used by USA Hercules military planes and has been involved in CIA torture flights.
