Originally the two terms were undifferentiated but by the 1840s communism was used by revolutionaries to differentiate themselves from reformists such as J.S.Mill who had adopted socialism to cover an indigestible mess of reformisms.</p>\r\n<p><iframe frameborder=\"0\" height=\"60\" src=\"https://www.mixcloud.com/widget/iframe/?hide_cover=1&amp;mini=1&amp;feed=%2Fworkerssolidarity%2Fwhat-is-communism-william-thompson-libertarian-communism-and-free-software%2F\" width=\"100%\"></iframe></p>\r\n\";s:21:\"node_revisions_format\";s:1:\"2\";s:7:\"_random\";s:20:\"0.050706001977162435\";}i:1;O:8:\"stdClass\":5:{s:3:\"nid\";s:4:\"7594\";s:10:\"node_title\";s:51:\"Irish Anarchist Review no7 - Spring 2013 - with PDF\";s:21:\"node_revisions_teaser\";s:2373:\"<p><img alt=\"\" src=\"/sites/default/files/IA%26Cover280px.jpg\" style=\"border-bottom: 1px solid; border-left: 1px solid; margin: 3px; width: 280px; float: right; height: 412px; border-top: 1px solid; border-right: 1px solid\" />Welcome to issue seven of the Irish Anarchist Review, published by the Workers Solidarity Movement. One hundred years on from the great Dublin lockout, the labour movement in Ireland stands at a crossroads. In this issue, we look at some of the struggles of the past that lead us to this moment in history and consider ways that we can progress the reconstruction of working class organisation. We don&rsquo;t think there is a magic formula for success; rather we hope this magazine can be a forum for debate for activists who are involved in the struggles that are going on in 2013.</p>\r\n<p><strong><a href=\"/sites/default/files/IAR7.pdf\">PDF file of IAR 7 to download</a>&nbsp;(<a href=\"http://www.scribd.com/doc/176585507/Irish-Anarchist-Review-7\">Print Quality version on Scribd</a>)</strong></p>\r\n<ul>\r\n <li>\r\n <strong><a href=\"http://www.wsm.ie/c/1913-lockout-dublin-larkinism-myths\">Locked Out: Dublin 1913</a></strong></li>\r\n <li>\r\n <a href=\"http://www.wsm.ie/c/general-strike-protest-process-solidarity\"><strong>General Strike - Protest or Process</strong></a></li>\r\n <li>\r\n <a href=\"http://www.wsm.ie/c/squatting-politics-dublin-housing-action-committee\"><strong>Urban Politics &amp; The Dublin Housing Action Committee 1968-71</strong></a></li>\r\n <li>\r\n <a href=\"http://www.wsm.ie/c/brazilian-anarchism-interview-world-cup-especifismo\"><strong>Anarchism in Brazil</strong></a></li>\r\n <li>\r\n <a href=\"http://www.wsm.ie/c/capital-left-analysis-debt-graeber-marxism\"><strong>Capital&#39;s Shadow</strong></a></li>\r\n <li>\r\n <a href=\"http://www.wsm.ie/c/rag-interview-revolutionary-anarcha-feminist-group-mar2013\"><strong>On the RAG</strong></a></li>\r\n <li>\r\n <strong><a href=\"http://www.wsm.ie/c/anarchism-intersecionality-gender-race-class\">The Politics of Voices: Notes on Gender, Race &amp; Class</a></strong></li>\r\n <li>\r\n <strong><a href=\"http://www.wsm.ie/c/anarchism-burn-out-self-care-support-activism\">Avoiding Burn out &ndash; Self Care and Support in activism</a></strong></li>\r\n <li>\r\n <strong><a href=\"http://www.wsm.ie/c/review-volume-2-anarchist-faq-iar\">Review of Volume 2 of Anarchist FAQ</a></strong></li>\r\n</ul>\r\n\";s:21:\"node_revisions_format\";s:1:\"2\";s:7:\"_random\";s:19:\"0.05425702319876945\";}}s:10:\"total_rows\";i:73;s:5:\"pager\";a:5:{s:9:\"use_pager\";s:1:\"0\";s:14:\"items_per_page\";i:2;s:7:\"element\";i:0;s:6:\"offset\";i:1;s:12:\"current_page\";i:0;}}', created = 1565253124, expire = 1565253424, headers = '', serialized = 1 WHERE cid = 'Random_PDF:block_1:results:d701b49486a84d4cd29efe1b1fbdd8e3' in /var/www/public/includes/cache.inc on line 112.

Into the Shadows - Britain’s dirty war in Ireland

Date:

The recent BBC  documentary 'Panorama: Britain's Secret Terror Force' may have once again put a spotlight on the extent of British state sponsored terrorism in the North and the activities of its various shadowy forces; but the level of orchestration, impunity, collusion and cover up is yet to be truly uncovered.

The documentary revealing the activities of the Military Reaction Force (MRF) was aired just a day after Northern Irish Attorney General John Larkin called for an amnesty on atrocities committed during the Irish troubles. He may be right to break this taboo, but was he lobbied by British soldiers and their friends who fear justice taking its course as this evidence comes to light?

Carrick Hill residents in Belfast subjected to sectarian hatred from Loyalist parade

Date:

There was little ‘our time, our place’ for residents of Carrick Hill on the edge of Belfast city centre recently as they were subjected to a sectarian and provocative Loyalist band parade with the approval of the PSNI along a route that has been relatively ‘peaceful’ and ‘non-contentious’ for years. Despite a parades commission ruling banning the Shankill Road band Young Conway Volunteers from playing outside St Patrick’s catholic church after this incident on the 12th July in which they were deliberately playing sectarian songs such as the Famine outside the church. Unemployment rises as Stormont politicians squabble over new road signs

Date:

Northern Ireland unemployment figures rise again as our local sectarian politicians engage in petty point-scoring over the latest hot potato that dominates the political discourse. Latest figures have revealed that the number of people claiming unemployment benefits in July was 63,200, an increase of 400 with this figure being the second highest among the 12 UK regions. The NI rate now stands at 7.6% with that figure rising again once you include the fact that over 20% of the population our classed as ‘economically in-active’- the highest in the UK.

The Spanish revolution and its relevance today

Date:

This year marks the 76 anniversary of the ‘Spanish Civil War’ which is one of the most mis-understood conflicts in the 20th century. For some particular those wedded to a traditional view of history the war was merely between the forces of fascism and those committed to defending the democratically elected Republican Government. It is also this time of year when we will be greeted with a range of lectures and talks organised by the Communist Party inspired International Brigades Commemoration Committee across Ireland which deliberately distorts the reality of the 'civil war'. However, for anarchists nothing could be further from the truth. The social revolutionary upheaval was not just a battle against fascism but a new society in the making-libertarian communism.

SDLP leader pleas ‘poverty' as we face their cuts

Date:

SDLP leader Dr Alasdair McDonnell has claimed that Stormont assembly members should be entitled to a ‘small increment’ on their 43,000 basic salary a year and better pension payments to keep them from ‘poverty’ in retirement. Yet again one rule for them and another for the rest of us as these gangsters on the hill expect us to bear the brunt of their vicious cuts in jobs and services being imposed by all our local political parties at the behest of their masters from Westminster.

Wikileaks Cables: Harmless Gossip or Threat to World Stability?

Date:

Wikileaks is currently making headlines daily.  Aside from the various revelations, there are also two widely told stories which are suppose to help us put these leaks into context.

The first story is that the leaks are nothing more than gossip.  They are stories about Gaddafi's nurse[1] and what the ambassador thinks of David Cameron[2].  Anyone who isn't a tabloid reader or nosey-parker should be disinterested in the content.

On the suicide plane attack on the IRS offices in Austin

Protest outside German Embassy in Solidarity with FAU - Dublin Jan 29th

Date:

Members of WSM and Organise gathered on a bright afternoon light of a cold Janaury day, in the leafy surburbs of Booterstown, Dublin, outside the German Embassy to protest recent Berlin District Court Decision to stop the Free Workers Union (FAU - Freie Arbeiterinnen- und Arbeiter-Union) from being able to call itself a Union.
